DENSO Develops New Laser Radar

May 10, 2013

DENSO Corporation has developed a smaller and more cost-effective laser radar, which is an active safety technology that will help avoid low-speed collisions. DENSO’s new laser radar is used as a sensor for the Smart Assist System of the Daihatsu Move, a compact vehicle released in the Japanese market last December.

To eliminate traffic accidents, DENSO has developed and commercialized other safety technologies that protect occupants and prevent accidents under the motto of “Everyday Confidence, Extraordinary Safety.” DENSO is committed to developing and refining technologies to help create a safer automotive society for people worldwide.

DENSO Announces Year-end Financial Results

DENSO Corporation today announced global financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013:
Consolidated net sales totaled 3,580.9 billion yen (US$38.1 billion), a 13.5 percent increase from the previous year.
Consolidated operating income totaled 262.4 billion yen (US$2.8 billion), a 63.2 percent increase from the previous year.
Consolidated net income totaled 181.7 billion yen (US$1.9billion), a 103.5 percent increase from the previous year.

DENSO Continues to Support Toyota Racing in FIA World Endurance Championship

TOYOTA Racing began its first full season in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the Six Hours of Silverstone with a pole-postion start and a podium finish.

TOYOTA Racing is once again unique in using super capacitor technology in its hybrid powertrain. This fast charging/discharging technology delivers 300hp of boost under acceleration and was a key factor in last year’s race victories.

The two race cars feature a rear hybrid motor system developed by DENSO.

DENSO to Establish New Company in Poland to Produce Instrument Clusters

March 28, 2013

To strengthen its manufacturing footprint of instrument clusters in Europe, DENSO Corporation will establish a new company that makes instrument clusters in Myslowice, Poland, on April 5, 2013.
DENSO’s investment in the new company will total 16.1 million Polish zloty (approximately US$5.1 million*), and DENSO expects to employ approximately 70 people by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016.
The new company, DENSO Poland Sp.zo.o, will start producing instrument clusters in August 2013.

DENSO Conducts Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Technology Field Tests in China

March 22, 2013

DENSO Corporation, in collaboration with Tongji University (Shanghai), will test vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology on public roads in Taicang, Jiangsu Province, China from Mar. 23 to Mar. 27.
The experiments are intended to help improve the traffic flow of public buses and also improve fuel efficiency and help reduce CO2 emissions.
This will be DENSO’s second field test in China with Tongji University regarding vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) technology, following a test conducted in March 2012.

DENSO Licenses SJ MOS Transistor

February 27, 2013

DENSO Corporation today announced that it has signed a licensing agreement for its Super Junction Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (SJ MOS) transistor manufacturing technology, with Tokyo-based New Japan Radio Co., Ltd – a company that manufactures semiconductors and electronic components.

DENSO’s new technology realizes a power semiconductor device with the world’s lowest level of on-resistance, which results in an improvement in efficiency and a smaller power device.

DENSO Develops Pedestrian Collision Detection Sensor

February 15, 2013

DENSO Corporation has developed a pedestrian collision detection sensor for the Pop-up Hood. The new sensor more precisely detects head-on collisions between vehicles and pedestrians, enabling the Pop-up Hood to operate more accurately.
DENSO’s new sensor consists of two pressure sensors and a hollow polyethylene housing that is installed across the entire front bumper.
In a head-on vehicle/pedestrian collision, these pressure sensors precisely detect the increase in internal pressure of the hollow housing as the bumper deforms, regardless of the collision position on the front bumper.

DENSO Purchases All Shares of Shimizu Industry UK

February 6, 2013

DENSO Manufacturing UK Ltd., a DENSO subsidiary that manufactures car air conditioners and heaters,
has purchased Shimizu Industry UK Ltd., which manufactures plastic products for car air conditioners and radiators,
with effect from 31st January 2013.

As a result of this purchase, Shimizu’s Welshpool operations has become part of DENSO Manufacturing UK.

DENSO Announces Third-quarter Financial Results

February 1, 2013

DENSO Corporation today announced its third quarter global financial results for the nine months ending Dec. 31, 2012:
Consolidated net sales totaled 2,569.4 billion yen (US$29.7 billion), a 16.0 percent increase from the previous year.
Consolidated operating income totaled 188.0 billion yen (US$2.2 billion), a 128.9 percent increase from the previous year.
Consolidated net income totaled 130.8 billion yen (US$1.5 billion), a 259.7 percent increase from the previous year.

DENSO Europe launches IGNITE graduate programme

DENSO has confirmed that it is launching, in Europe, a new regional recruitment and development programme for Engineers as part of its longer term investment in the region.

DENSO will be recruiting on an annual basis a number of talented graduates to join its Engineering teams. They will benefit from a structured and international development programme lasting 24 months. IGNITE includes extensive training both in Japan and outside of their home country.

DENSO Develops World’s First Integrated, In-vehicle Wireless Cell Phone Charger

Global automotive supplier DENSO has developed the world’s first integrated, in-vehicle wireless cell phone charger, in collaboration with Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions (PLDS).

DENSO’s Qi-compatible wireless cell phone charger will make its world debut in North America on the 2013 Toyota Avalon Limited as part of the available technology package.

The wireless cell phone charger is manufactured at the company’s DENSO Wireless Systems America facility, located in Vista, California.

DENSO Develops Higher Performance Millimeter-wave Radar

November 28, 2012

DENSO Corporation has developed a new and higher-performing millimeter-wave radar.

It has a longer and wider detection range, which helps improve the responsiveness of an active safety technology, such as Pre-crash Safety (PCS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) systems.

The new millimeter-wave radar system is available as a factory option on the Mazda6, which was launched in Europe and Japan this past fall, and is planned to be introduced to markets worldwide.

Selling DENSO stock by Bosch Group

DENSO Corporation today announced that Bosch Group has informed DENSO about their sale of DENSO stock.

This sale of DENSO stock represents the dissolution of capital relations and has no effect or impact on the good and sound collaborative tie-ups in technologies or joint ventures between both companies, which continues since a “License agreement” was concluded in 1953.

The two companies will continue to work together within the framework of existing partnerships and alliances. In the future, Bosch and DENSO will continue to examine opportunities for alliances that will allow them to satisfy the requirements of the global automotive industry.

DENSO Announces First-half Financial Results

DENSO Corporation today announced global financial results for the first half of the fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, 2012:

Consolidated net sales totaled 1,733.1 billion yen (US$22.3 billion), a 23.0 percent increase from the previous year.

Consolidated operating income totaled 136.3 billion yen (US$1.8 billion), a 327.7 percent increase from the previous year.

Consolidated net income totaled 78.1 billion yen (US$1.0 billion), a 235.3 percent increase from the previous year.

DENSO Develops Large-screen Head-up Display

As DENSO is focused on developing technologies that help keep a driver’s eyes on the road and hands on the wheel, it has developed the world’s largest projection size TFT LCD Head-up Display (HUD).

HUD technology projects important information such as vehicle speed, onto the windshield so drivers can obtain critical information while keeping their eyes on the road.

DENSO plans to introduce the new larger-display HUD to the global market in the 2015 timeframe.

DENSO Develops Lithium-ion Battery Pack for Stop/Start System

October 4, 2012

DENSO Corporation has developed a lithium-ion battery pack that further increases the fuel efficiency of vehicles with stop/start systems.

The new battery pack allows the stop/start system to use more regenerative power than current conventional systems that use a single lead-acid battery.

DENSO will continue its efforts to expand these technologies to other automakers and other regions in the world.

DENSO Develops Cold Storage Evaporator that Limits the Rise in Cabin Temperature During an Idle Stop

September 7, 2012

DENSO Corporation has developed a Cold Storage (CS) Evaporator, which limits the increase in vehicle cabin temperature during an idle stop when stop/start technology is deployed.

The newly developed CS Evaporator is equipped with a cold insulator, located in the heat exchanging area. This insulator stores cold energy to be used to cool in-vehicle cabin air while the engine and air-conditioning cycle is off in the idle-stop state.

DENSO Corporation today announced global financial results for the first quarter ending June 30, 2012.
”Compared to last year, DENSO’s consolidated sales and income increased sharply, as our 2011 first quarter results were impacted by the Great East Japan Earthquake,” said Kenichiro Ito, executive director of DENSO Corporation. “Considering the first-quarter financial results, we have decided to upwardly revise the original forecasts for the first-half and full-year financial results.”

DENSO Develops New Vision Sensor for Active Safety Systems

DENSO Corporation has developed a new vision sensor that is 50 percent smaller than the company’s previous sensor. The new sensor, which is used in active safety systems with Automatic High Beam (AHB) Control Systems and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) Systems, is the world’s smallest of its kind. In addition, the sensor can perform at a higher operating temperature compared to the previous model, making this the greatest operating temperature range in the world.

DENSO Develops Vehicle-to-Home Power Supply System for Electric Vehicles

DENSO Corporation has developed a vehicle-to-home (V2H) power supply system for electric vehicles (EV), which is designed to work in coordination with DENSO’s home energy management system (HEMS).

The V2H system can quickly charge an EV with direct current from the HEMS storage battery, and can supply the electricity in the EV back to the household. In addition, the system can efficiently distribute electricity, including power generated by residential photovoltaic systems (solar panels), to the EV and to the home through the coordination of the HEMS.

DENSO Develops Refrigerator System for Light-duty Hybrid Trucks

July 5, 2012

DENSO Corporation has developed a refrigerator system for light-duty hybrid trucks that contributes to better fuel efficiency while maintaining low-level freezer/refrigerator temperatures when the vehicle is idling at a stop light or in other traffic situations.

In addition to a conventional compressor driven by the engine via a belt, the new system uses an electric compressor powered by the battery unit of the hybrid vehicle. These two compressors are designed to automatically switch from one to the other while the engine is running or stopped.

DENSO’s Chinese Motorcycle Component Production Company Integrates with Chinese Motorcycle Component Manufacturer

DENSO Corporation today announced that CHONGQING DENSO CO., LTD., DENSO’s motorcycle component production and sales base in China, and Kunshan Gongcheng Electric Equipment Co., Ltd., a motorcycle component manufacturing company in China, have integrated their businesses to form a new company in June.

DENSO Develops New Smaller and More Efficient Condenser

May 15, 2012

DENSO has developed a smaller and more efficient condenser, which helps increase fuel efficiency, while allowing carmakers to have greater design flexibility inside the engine compartment.

Compared to conventional models, DENSO’s new Global Inner-fin Condenser (GIC) is 30 percent smaller.

To achieve the increase in efficiency, DENSO focused on increasing the heat removal performance of GIC.

DENSO Slashes Size and Weight of Radiator by 40 Percent

DENSO Corporation developed a new and more efficient radiator that is 40 percent smaller and lighter, compared to DENSO’s previous radiators. Also, the radiator’s tank is made with a plant-derived resin making it more environmentally friendly than conventional radiators.
