This is the first year DENSO received a John Deere’s Supplier Innovation Award. The G4 diesel system has been designed to provide higher fuel pressure, which is critical to emission regulations. Global automotive supplier DENSO has developed the world’s first integrated air intake throttle valve and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, halving the size of conventional models and requiring fewer components, thus reducing costs. •Consolidated net sales totaled 3,016.6 billion yen (US$28.8 billion), a 17.4 percent increase from the previous year.
•Consolidated operating income totaled 289.9 billion yen (US$2.8 billion), a 54.2 percent increase from the previous year.
•Consolidated net income totaled 225.6 billion yen (US$2.2 billion), a 72.5 percent increase from the previous year.
Introducing the World’s First Electric Refrigerator System for Heavy-duty Trucks Using a Hybrid UnitJanuary 29, 2014
Hino Motors, Ltd. (Hino) and DENSO Corporation (DENSO) have jointly developed the world’s first electric refrigerator system for heavy-duty trucks using a hybrid unit. The newly developed electric refrigerator system uses energy generated while driving or regenerated energy from the hybrid unit to operate the refrigerator’s compressor. This substantially reduces the amount of fuel normally used to drive the engine to operate the compressor, thus reducing CO2 emissions as well. Compared to refrigerated trucks that use an auxiliary engine to operate the compressor, the new system is quieter, and contributes to an approximately 150kg weight reduction.
The world’s first automotive climate control unit that can be used across vehicle models. Many of the subcomponents such as air mix door, servo motor and blower fan were newly developed, which enabled to reduce the unit’s size by 20 percent compared to DENSO’s conventional model, and significantly standardized the unit. The new smaller, lighter climate control unit with higher performance can also be used in eco-friendly cars. For instance, for stop/start systems, the evaporator in the unit can be replaced with a cold storage evaporator, and for hybrid and electric vehicles the heater core can be replaced with a heat pump air conditioning system. Also by changing the blower fan to two layer structure, to take in external air and circulate internal air simultaneously, the air conditioning system could be used for vehicles with limited heat sources.
Global automotive supplier DENSO is investing US$10 million and adding 176 new jobs to expand its North American headquarters in Southfield, Mich.
In Tennessee, DENSO will invest approximately US$55 million and add 130 positions at DENSO Manufacturing Athens to expand its gasoline direct injection lines. This is in addition to the $55 million investment and 130 new jobs that DENSO announced last year to localize its gasoline direct injection lines, bringing the total investment to $105 million and 260 new jobs.
The expansion is part of the company’s plan to invest nearly $US1 billion and create 2,000 jobs in North America over a four-year span. Of this, more than $750 million and 1,200 will be in the United States alone.
Korea Fair Trade Commission Announcement Concerning Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act Related to Automotive ComponentsDecember 23, 2013
As per the KFTC’s announcement, DENSO Corporation and its subsidiaries, DENSO Korea Automotive Corporation and DENSO Korea Electronics Corporation, were named as the suppliers involved in violation of the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act.
However, the DENSO companies were exempted from all of the KFTC’s orders as described above, because they had completely eliminated the conduct that was suspected to be in violation before the commencement of the authority’s investigation and because they applied to the KFTC for the leniency program in regard to suspected illegal conduct related to sales of automotive windshield wiper systems and instrumental panel clusters, which was granted by the KFTC.
Global automotive supplier DENSO Corporation has produced gasoline injection products such as injectors and fuel pumps for over 40 years since 1972. This year, the DENSO Group produced its 900 millionth injector and its 250 millionth fuel pump.

Global automotive supplier DENSO and Nagoya University have developed an in-vehicle battery-based energy management system (EMS), which uses forecasting models of household electricity demand and vehicle use to reduce electricity costs. The EMS coordinates with batteries used in electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to use their stored electricity to help keep down electricity bills. The system measures power consumption, the amount of power generated by solar panels, vehicle use, and other household characteristics to construct models for forecasting household electricity demand and vehicle use. Based on these estimates, the system controls the charging and discharging of the in-vehicle battery in real time, reducing the amount of power purchased when the rates are high while increasing it when the rates are low to save money on electricity.
Global automotive supplier DENSO will acquire a 50 percent stake in ADASENS Automotive GmbH to help accelerate and advance the development of active safety technologies. ADASENS, which is an image recognition technology company, is a group company of FICOSA International, S.A. The transaction is expected to be completed at the end of 2013 following relevant required procedures.
ADASENS develops advanced driver assistance systems; particularly in the area of image recognition technologies using cameras to detect obstacles ahead, behind, and around vehicles. With ADASENS expertise, DENSO will accelerate its development of image recognition technologies that will help reduce driver workload and enhance active safety features to help avoid potential collisions.
UK Minister for Skills, Matthew Hancock MP, visited Telford Manufacturing Partnership and DENSO Manufacturing UK Ltd.September 16, 2013
The Telford Manufacturing Partnership, which is located within the Telford based facility of Lead Employer, DENSO Manufacturing UK Ltd. (DENSO UK), has secured £1 million of funding through the Employer Ownership of Skills pilot scheme supported by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
Skills Minister Matthew Hancock said: “DENSO’s facilities are exactly the kind of place where the modern workforce needs to be trained. Using top of the range techniques and equipment will provide a skills base fit to compete in the global race.
“The Government investment of £1 million, matched by DENSO provides a model for how industry can develop training that responds to industrial need.”

Global automotive supplier DENSO will present its advanced technologies at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show held on September 12-22, 2013. DENSO’s new technologies and products, with a focus on the environment and safety, will be on display in Hall 4.0, booth A04.
The IAA 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show will also be the first European auto show for Yasushi Yamanaka as DENSO regional president and CEO. After 34 years at DENSO Corporation, Yamanaka is taking over European responsibility from Yoshikazu Makino who now is in charge of the Asia and Oceania region.

DENSO Corporation has developed a new diesel common rail (DCR) fuel injection system with the world’s highest injection pressure of 2,500 bar. The new DCR system will launch to market later this year on passenger, commercial, agricultural and construction vehicles worldwide.

TOYOTA Racing began its first full season in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the Six Hours of Silverstone with a pole-postion start and a podium finish.
TOYOTA Racing is once again unique in using super capacitor technology in its hybrid powertrain. This fast charging/discharging technology delivers 300hp of boost under acceleration and was a key factor in last year’s race victories.
The two race cars feature a rear hybrid motor system developed by DENSO.
To strengthen its manufacturing footprint of instrument clusters in Europe, DENSO Corporation will establish a new company that makes instrument clusters in Myslowice, Poland, on April 5, 2013.
DENSO’s investment in the new company will total 16.1 million Polish zloty (approximately US$5.1 million*), and DENSO expects to employ approximately 70 people by the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016.
The new company, DENSO Poland Sp.zo.o, will start producing instrument clusters in August 2013.
DENSO Corporation, in collaboration with Tongji University (Shanghai), will test vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology on public roads in Taicang, Jiangsu Province, China from Mar. 23 to Mar. 27.
The experiments are intended to help improve the traffic flow of public buses and also improve fuel efficiency and help reduce CO2 emissions.
This will be DENSO’s second field test in China with Tongji University regarding vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) technology, following a test conducted in March 2012.
DENSO Corporation today announced that it has signed a licensing agreement for its Super Junction Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (SJ MOS) transistor manufacturing technology, with Tokyo-based New Japan Radio Co., Ltd – a company that manufactures semiconductors and electronic components.
DENSO’s new technology realizes a power semiconductor device with the world’s lowest level of on-resistance, which results in an improvement in efficiency and a smaller power device.
DENSO Corporation has developed a pedestrian collision detection sensor for the Pop-up Hood. The new sensor more precisely detects head-on collisions between vehicles and pedestrians, enabling the Pop-up Hood to operate more accurately.
DENSO’s new sensor consists of two pressure sensors and a hollow polyethylene housing that is installed across the entire front bumper.
In a head-on vehicle/pedestrian collision, these pressure sensors precisely detect the increase in internal pressure of the hollow housing as the bumper deforms, regardless of the collision position on the front bumper.
DENSO Manufacturing UK Ltd., a DENSO subsidiary that manufactures car air conditioners and heaters,
has purchased Shimizu Industry UK Ltd., which manufactures plastic products for car air conditioners and radiators,
with effect from 31st January 2013.
As a result of this purchase, Shimizu’s Welshpool operations has become part of DENSO Manufacturing UK.

Global automotive supplier DENSO has developed the world’s first integrated, in-vehicle wireless cell phone charger, in collaboration with Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions (PLDS).
DENSO’s Qi-compatible wireless cell phone charger will make its world debut in North America on the 2013 Toyota Avalon Limited as part of the available technology package.
The wireless cell phone charger is manufactured at the company’s DENSO Wireless Systems America facility, located in Vista, California.
DENSO Corporation has developed a new and higher-performing millimeter-wave radar.
It has a longer and wider detection range, which helps improve the responsiveness of an active safety technology, such as Pre-crash Safety (PCS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) systems.

DENSO Corporation today announced global financial results for the first half of the fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, 2012:
Consolidated net sales totaled 1,733.1 billion yen (US$22.3 billion), a 23.0 percent increase from the previous year.
Consolidated operating income totaled 136.3 billion yen (US$1.8 billion), a 327.7 percent increase from the previous year.
Consolidated net income totaled 78.1 billion yen (US$1.0 billion), a 235.3 percent increase from the previous year.
As DENSO is focused on developing technologies that help keep a driver’s eyes on the road and hands on the wheel, it has developed the world’s largest projection size TFT LCD Head-up Display (HUD).
HUD technology projects important information such as vehicle speed, onto the windshield so drivers can obtain critical information while keeping their eyes on the road.
DENSO plans to introduce the new larger-display HUD to the global market in the 2015 timeframe.

DENSO Corporation has developed a Cold Storage (CS) Evaporator, which limits the increase in vehicle cabin temperature during an idle stop when stop/start technology is deployed.
The newly developed CS Evaporator is equipped with a cold insulator, located in the heat exchanging area. This insulator stores cold energy to be used to cool in-vehicle cabin air while the engine and air-conditioning cycle is off in the idle-stop state.

DENSO Corporation has developed a new vision sensor that is 50 percent smaller than the company’s previous sensor. DENSO Corporation has developed a vehicle-to-home (V2H) power supply system for electric vehicles (EV), which is designed to work in coordination with DENSO’s home energy management system (HEMS).
The V2H system can quickly charge an EV with direct current from the HEMS storage battery, and can supply the electricity in the EV back to the household. In addition, the system can efficiently distribute electricity, including power generated by residential photovoltaic systems (solar panels), to the EV and to the home through the coordination of the HEMS.

DENSO Corporation has developed a refrigerator system for light-duty hybrid trucks that contributes to better fuel efficiency while maintaining low-level freezer/refrigerator temperatures when the vehicle is idling at a stop light or in other traffic situations.
In addition to a conventional compressor driven by the engine via a belt, the new system uses an electric compressor powered by the battery unit of the hybrid vehicle. These two compressors are designed to automatically switch from one to the other while the engine is running or stopped.

Compared to conventional models, DENSO’s new Global Inner-fin Condenser (GIC) is 30 percent smaller.
To achieve the increase in efficiency, DENSO focused on increasing the heat removal performance of GIC.
