DENSO Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Intel
KARIYA (Japan) ― DENSO Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Intel Corporation to collaborate on next-generation in-vehicle information and communication systems. The goal of the joint project is to develop a platform for in-vehicle information and communication systems to provide drivers information about their vehicles and to seamlessly connect to information and content from mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
The research will effectively bring together the companies’ broad-ranging technical expertise – Intel’s experience in developing technologies for personal computing and DENSO’s knowledge of balancing quality requirements needed to install IT products in vehicles with advanced infotainment functions.
Growing Need for IT-related Information and Communications Systems:
In addition to the main navigation functions of conventional systems, next-generation in-vehicle information and communication systems will allow the driver and other occupants to freely access information from their vehicle and a range of personal devices when needed, display it on their system, and update their system applications via network communications. Accordingly, these new systems are likely to be more flexible, infotainment*1 systems.
DENSO has developed smartphone-connected technologies and services, such as NaviBridge*2 and ARPEGGiO*3, which connects to information and content on those smartphones and safely displays it in the vehicle to mitigate driver distraction – helping make driving safe, more convenient, and more comfortable. DENSO will continue to work with various IT companies and semiconductor manufacturers, including Intel, home appliance makers, and other companies to develop technologies and platforms for next-generation in-vehicle information and communication system.

*2 NaviBridge: A smartphone application that works with location-aware smartphone applications from various content providers to store a location identified by each locating application into the car navigation system via Bluetooth or USB.
*3 ARPEGGiO: A service for viewing and operating smartphone applications on human-machine interfaces (HMI) developed for on-board information and communications systems. Applications designed for in-vehicle use can be downloaded from the ARPEGGiO service center to smartphones and on-board information and communications devices.
